Here I am again reviewing the latest slew of Apple products that I'd really like to buy and spotting the usual inconsistencies of price across the the different national stores. For a quick review, I've listed the price of the Minis on the various stores that I have relatively easy access to, using my current French pricing as the baseline at 1 Euro.
To ensure that I'm being fair in the comparisons, I've also included local sales taxes in addition to the base price. For the US Store I've set the sales tax at 12.375 (based on the
NY City Sales Tax)* and for the Canadian store a purchase in Ontario (5% GST plus 8% PST). Euro prices in France are always quoted tax included so there's no additional adjustment to make.
It's a pretty sad situation for Apple fans here in France...

So for those of you in France, if you have any friends traveling in North America, it's definitely worth asking them to see if they have a little extra room in their suitcases... I guess that this is one way of encouraging tourism to the US. Or encourage enterprising US residents to set up a side business traveling in Europe.
As a side note: current Air France promotions include Paris/Boston for 602€. Which could be financed with the purchase of 3 server class Minis... Whoa! Cheapest flight is NYC at 442€. Bring a big suitcase!

* Noting of course that there are some cities/counties/states that do not charge sales tax so checking your travel plans is a good idea :-)
